🤖 Google DeepMind's New Steps in Human-Robot Interaction

Google DeepMind had robots learn specific locations in an actual office setting, like "Lewis’s desk" or "temporary desk area." The system uses frames from tour videos to create a simple map of the space, allowing the robots to find paths without needing a detailed map.

The Robot was given different types of instructions:

  • 📝 Map sketches on a whiteboard

  • 🗣️ Audio requests referencing places from the tour

  • 🎲 Visual cues, like a box of toys

These inputs helped the robots perform various tasks for different users. Robots handled 57 different tasks in a 9000+ square ft area.

This development points to a future where you could simply record a tour of your environment with a smartphone, helping personal robot assistants understand and navigate the space.

Circle to Search simplifies searching without switching apps. Now enhanced with translation capabilities and homework help, it supports complex topics like symbolic math and barcode scanning. This feature will soon be available on the Galaxy Z Fold6 and Flip6.

Wear OS 5 is coming to the new Galaxy Watches, including the Watch Ultra and Watch7. Expect improved performance, better battery life, and advanced health monitoring features like heart rate and sleep tracking.

Lastly, YouTube TV on the Galaxy Z Fold6 will support multiview, allowing you to watch up to four streams simultaneously, perfect for catching up on sports and news.

Samsung continuously collaborates with Google to bring the latest updates to your favorite devices.

📱 Apple's Smarter Siri and Apple Intelligence Coming in Spring

Expect big changes for Siri in spring 2025 with the rollout of Apple Intelligence via iOS 18.4. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, this update will bring advanced AI features to iPhones, making Siri more capable than ever.

With Apple Intelligence, Siri might soon perform tasks like retrieving your ID from a vast photo library or entering your driver’s license number into forms. While some features, such as AI-powered emoji generation or writing assistance, may debut later, the beta versions of iOS 18 will reveal more about what to expect as we get closer to the 18.4 release.

This fall, look for updates like ChatGPT integration, a new Siri interface featuring a pulsing rainbow around the screen bezel, and enhanced tech support capabilities from Siri. Apple’s long-term AI plans also hint at exciting new devices, such as AirPods with embedded cameras and infrared sensors for motion detection, potentially working with the Vision Pro for advanced navigation and environmental interaction.
